Fiction Science Lab is an informal group of 8 fresh graduate screenwriters. At the University of Drama and Film Budapest we used to work together on a daily basis. We got to know each other and gained experience in collaboration. This encouraged us to found the laboratory and experiment further together.

Last summer Danila Kostil, the director of Kulo City and invitee to make a film to present the 18th birthday of Pesti Est, approached our group. Five of us (Anita Németh, Juli Széphelyi, Nóra Selmeczi, Marci Bárány and Gábor T. Horváth) participated in the project. After collecting material, ie. making interviews, in focused workgroups we co-wrote the true-story like feature film script on the company history of Pesti Est and the bloom of Pest nightlife in the nineties.

On order from Popfilm we wrote the treatments to the Budapest stories project, a sketch-film based upon stories/experiences of foreigners living and staying in Budapest.

Marci Bárány and Anita Németh took part in the development of an András Szirtes feature film script  as scriptdoctors.

Our cooperation with Mediawave started last year. In relation to the Győr Film Fund tender “Defekt”, three members of the group (Virág Zomborácz, Juli Széphelyi and Nóra Selmeczi) were invited to participate as script doctors and to evaluate artwork applications. Later on they animated the screenwriter group at the summer Passport Control workshop at Mediawave. The cooperation goes on this year.

This year, as well as last year, as a representative of Fiction Science, Juli Széphelyi was a consultant in Azyl Busó’s Life Ad tender, which was a joint workshop of MOME-MKE-SZFE-ELTE’s linked to an international commercial contest.

In 2011 we are focusing on series developement. Divided into smaller units, we developed several series concepts.

More of our members participated in the Belanski web-series workshop succesfully as Belanski has chosen four of our concepts to be realized.
